Unique LMI: modernization and efficiency in underwriting
Product innovation as part of Mitsui's digital transformation

Mitsui Sumitomo Seguros has been accelerating the modernization of its portfolio with a focus on efficiency, governance, and the continuous evolution of digital products. In fact, we have already shown how this transformation is being built on the Mitsui Digital Platform (see the content here).
In this case study, the highlight is another strategic delivery of this journey: the Single LMI, an indemnity limit structuring model that simplifies contracting, reduces commercial friction, and improves operational efficiency in underwriting.

LML by coverage and complexity in traditional models
In traditional corporate insurance models, each coverage under a policy has a specific LML (Limit of Liability). The LML (Limit of Liability) is the maximum amount the insurer can pay in the event of a claim. In corporate products, this limit usually varies by coverage, which increases the number of rules, exceptions, and possible combinations within a single policy.
Although technically robust, this format increases the complexity of purchasing for the broker and the client, hinders comparisons between options, and expands the operational effort, which needs to evaluate multiple limits and rules to price and control risk.
Within a broader modernization scenario, Mitsui identified in the Single LML an opportunity to simplify this structure, offering more flexibility to the client and greater efficiency for the internal operation, while at the same time strengthening the competitiveness of the portfolio.
This product is part of the company's digital transformation journey, which seeks to combine tradition and innovation to offer increasingly complete solutions. More than a functional evolution, the initiative represents an advance in how complex products are structured, operated, and presented to the market.
TRINCA's approach in building the Single LMI
The creation of the Single LMI involved significant challenges. It was essential to ensure technical, regulatory, and commercial alignment, integrate the solution seamlessly into Mitsui's Digital Platform, and make the concept clear and easy to operate for brokers and internal teams. The innovation needed to generate value without introducing new risks or complexities to the already existing ecosystem.
TRINCA treated the Single LMI as a strategic product, rather than just an additional feature. From its conception, the work was guided by a systemic vision, connecting business, operation, and user experience.
The approach included an in-depth analysis of the model's impact on underwriting flows, the redesign of the quoting and issuing experience, the simplification of the contracting logic, and the possibility of complete integration with the Digital Platform's journey. The solution was built based on a real user need, without relying on external benchmarks.
“The connection we have with the TRINCA team is very healthy and high-level, aligning purpose and expectations. And that is a major differentiator.”
Clayton Palandrani - CIO and COO at Mitsui Sumitomo Seguros

An indemnity limit model for multiple coverages
The Single LMI allows a single maximum limit to be used for multiple policy coverages, according to the type of claim and up to the contracted amount. This structural change has brought more clarity, flexibility, and efficiency to the entire journey.
In practice, the solution resulted in:
Simpler and more flexible contracting.
Reduction in sales friction.
Less operational effort for underwriting.
A clearer and more competitive offer for the market.
Even though it is a feature of the MS Empresa product, the Single LMI stands out as a significant delivery on its own.

Subscription efficiency and bolstering of the digital portfolio
The implementation of Single LMI generated important strategic impacts:
Simplification of the product model.
Expected gains in operational efficiency in underwriting.
Strengthening of Mitsui's innovative positioning.
Consolidation of the Digital Platform as a mature and complete solution.
These results reinforce Mitsui's capacity to innovate consistently, aligning product, operation, and experience.
Continuous innovation as a competitive advantage
The delivery of LMI Único reinforces TRINCA's role as a strategic partner to Mitsui Sumitomo Seguros in its digital transformation journey. This joint effort allowed a complex need to be translated into a clear, sustainable solution aligned with the company's long-term objectives.
TRINCA continues to drive the evolution of Mitsui's digital portfolio, accelerating product modernization, strengthening operational efficiency, and expanding its competitiveness in the insurance market.
We will build the ideal solution for your business.
